DOG LICENSING

Wisconsin State Law and Town Ordinance require that you obtain a license for your dog unless it is less than six months old.

The Town will enforce this law and should your pet be picked up by the Humane Society, you will not be able to claim it without a license. It is your responsibility to obtain this license. Licenses run from January 1st through December 31st each year.

Licenses can be picked up at the Town Clerk’s office in the Town Hall during regular business hours. You must bring your pet’s current rabies certificate proving vaccination. The Town will also include renewal forms with the annual tax bills.

FEES FOR LICENSING YOUR DOG

Spayed/Neutered Dog $10.00
Unaltered Dog $15.00

All licenses must be applied for by April 1, otherwise a $5.00 late fee is imposed.  The Town limits the number of dogs allowed to two (2) per residence, except in the case of a litter of puppies. In this case, the puppies cannot exceed 5 months of age. More than two dogs in a residence requires Town approval and a Kennel License ($50.00/year and a one time Public Hearing at a cost of $50 plus postage).

LEASH LAW: The Town requires that dogs be on a leash whenever they leave the owner’s property. Dogs at large will be picked up as strays.

SCOOP LAW: The Town of Oconomowoc has an ordinance calling for dog owners to scoop or bag or otherwise pick-up and remove animal waste from public or private property (other than the property of the owner).
